The conversation about AI in global health is happening fast. But too often, it is happening without the women who deliver care, design programmes, and lead health systems across Africa.

WiPHLA's AI Leadership programme exists to change that. Through the AI for Public Health Flagship Session, WiPHLA members step into a hands-on, practitioner-led learning experience designed to build one thing above all else: judgment. Not familiarity with tools. The kind that tells you when to use AI, how to evaluate what it produces, and where to draw the line.

This is where African women in public health leadership move from observers of a technology to architects of how it operates in their work.

What Happens at the Flagship Session

Every Flagship Session is built around active participation:

  • Watch AI work in real time, then pull it apart together. The session opens with a live demonstration: AI building a real public health output, in front of the cohort. Members evaluate the output together, identifying where it delivers, where it falls short, and what that means for their practice.
  • Build prompts for your actual work. Working in community, members develop prompts across five use cases drawn directly from the realities of public health leadership in Africa:
  1. Policy briefs
  2. Stakeholder emails
  3. Intervention ideas
  4. Digital tools for rural settings
  5. AI use policies

The Flagship Session is the entry point into WiPHLA's AI Leadership learning journey. What members experience and decide in this session shapes the modules that follow.
