Know Your Policy Lab

From Policy to Practice

WiPHLA's flagship policy literacy programme — a space where women in public health leadership move from reading policy documents to actually understanding, navigating, and translating them into practice.

Attendees at a Know Your Policy Lab session

Public health policy shapes everything from funding to service delivery, but too often, the people closest to implementation are the least equipped to navigate it. KYP Lab closes that gap.

Held regularly virtually and in-person, each edition brings together policymakers, practitioners, and public health leaders for an in-depth, evidence-based look at a single policy issue — from health financing reform to mental health legislation.

Every session pairs expert analysis with real conversation, so participants leave with informed confidence, not just information.

What Happens at a KYP Lab

  • A deep-dive policy presentation. Delivered by a practitioner who has shaped or worked directly on the policy in question.
  • Comparative, cross-country analysis. Each edition examines how a policy challenge plays out across different national contexts.
  • A panel of practitioners. Bringing frontline perspectives from government, academia, and civil society.
  • Guided discussion and audience engagement. Q&A, live polls, and reflection — every session opens with a baseline assessment so impact on policy literacy is measured, not assumed.
  • A synthesized set of recommendations. Every edition closes with clear next steps, feeding into a short policy brief.
